Nice type

I love the wavy, flowing type of the kleenex logo. I'm definitely going to experiment with hand-drawn type.

Inspiration

I am going to do some screen printing this module if it kills me. I love the effect you get when you layer an illustration over the top of block colour. I might experiment with screen printing a background and drawing directly over the top. Looking at this stuff, I reckon its all about keeping it simple.

Retro Graphics

My dissertation subject is all about originality and part of what I am investigating is how imagery from the past is recycled and incorporated into modern styles. I was doing some research when I came across these characters from a 1950's edition of Popular mechanics magazine. I have always been a fan of the thick black lines that are common in so called 'street art' and found it interesting how similar the look is to this stuff from over 50 years ago.

Looking at Illustrators

I've been looking at a range of illustrators online to get some inspiration for my work. I really like this minimalistic approach. The 'cut out' look. The addition of texture and aging really contributes to the overall look and feel of the work.
